Eye Examinations
Comprehensive, regular and thorough eye examinations are vital to good health and vision. A comprehensive examination involves not just an expert assessment of visual needs but also careful screening for ocular and systemic disease. Better to detect problems earlier than later.
Your visual skills and abilities will be carefully evaluated and appropriate treatment prescribed whether it's spectacles, contact lenses, exercises or just advice.
Your eyecare is a priority to us at Angelo Street Optical and because of this we continue to invest heavily in the very latest examination equipment. You'll appreciate the level of investment as soon as you set foot into our consulting room.
Retinal Photography
We routinely take digital photos of the back of your eyes letting us accurately record the health of your retina. This was the gold standard in monitoring any changes and detecting retinal problems early before the advent of Optical Coherence Tomography. Retinal photography still gives us important 2 dimensional images which are very useful for comparison over time. At Angelo Street Optical we are one of the few practices in Perth who use an iCare EIDON AF Autoflourescence Widefield Truecolor Confocal fundus imaging system. This gives us increased sharpness, better optical resolution, higher details, and greater contrast allowing us to better detect, monitor and diagnose retinal conditions. Autoflourescence and infrared imaging allows us to visualize deeper layers within the retina and choroid to better assess retinal health.
OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)
We also offer retinal scans with our Canon OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), using the latest imaging technology, which allows us to detect and diagnose eye diseases such as Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Macular Oedema and other retinal diseases, much earlier than our other conventional techniques.
With our OCT scanner, we can look deeper beneath the surface of your retina which allows us to detect any changes which may be occurring long before they would normally become visible on the surface. This technology is very different to Retinal Photography. A retinal photo or conventional "scan" generally only allows us to see what's happening on the surface. The OCT scan on the other hand gives us a picture of what's below the surface by creating 3 dimensional scans.
An OCT takes about 10 minutes to do, is completely non-invasive, painless and safe. The scan is performed by the Optometrist and results are immediate.
We recommend this for everyone with a family history of Glaucoma or Macular Degeneration. During routine eye examinations, we may recommend an OCT scan if we need to look deeper into your retina.
OCT scans are $60 ($40 concession).
Visual Fields
Our Humphrey Field Analyser lets us detect subtle changes that can affect your peripheral vision - often associated with the "sneak thief" glaucoma. Humphrey Field Analyser's are the gold standard in monitoring changes and progression of glaucoma.
