Wayne graduated as an optometrist from Queensland University Technology in Brisbane in 1992.  He completed his Ophthalmic Medicines Prescribing training in 2013.  He was a store manager and staff optometrist for 12 years for a large national chain in a variety of locations including Esperance, Rockingham, Morley and Hay Street.  He has also worked in some of Perth’s most exclusive high street optical practices.

He is a careful refractionist and a proactive contact lens fitter.  His experiences of Therapeutics higher education, and working in an Eye Hospital in Hyderabad, India and country WA practice without the comforts of a nearby ophthalmologist means his eye disease diagnostic skills are advanced.  Wayne has a special interest in early Glaucoma detection and management given his strong family history and his own well managed Ocular Hypertension.  Wayne’s patient empathetic manner is often commented on by clients.

Since then, Barry has held roles including store manager for national corporate chains in the metropolitan area such as Subiaco, Midland, Morley, Booragoon, as well as the Hay Street Mall in the CBD. He was also involved in a number of eye safety programmes.

His work has also taken him to country Western Australia and as far away as the UK where he did domiciliary work in Greater London and the Home Counties.  During this time, Barry has also been involved in training and development for the optical industry both as the regional trainer for a national group and as a lecturer for a number of years for the optical dispensing course at TAFE.  He has served on the state council for the dispensing association, and is a member of the International Opticians Association.

His passion for customer service and desire to provide great product for his customers is clearly evident when you visit Angelo Street Optical.

You may have met our very friendly associate Optometrist Stuart Aamodt if you came in when Wayne has been away.  Stuart first started working with us as a locum in early 2019 and joined us in 2020 more permanently.

He works with us on Fridays and works elsewhere at Perth Eye Clinic as a Clinical Optometrist and Dry Eye Specialist.  Stuart is WA’s Optometrist representative on the national Optometry Board with Ahpra.
